DARA (Deal Area Refugee Action) and Deal Film Club present… Limbo.

This 2021 comedy-drama centres on four asylum seekers who are sent to a remote island in Scotland where they take bizarre cultural awareness classes whilst awaiting the processing of their refugee claims.

Director and writer Ben Sharrock spent time working for an NGO in refugee camps in southern Algeria and living in Damascus in 2009 shortly before the outbreak of the Syrian civil war. There, he formed a network of friends whose personal stories inspired the film.

Nominated for two BAFTA® awards for Outstanding British Film and Best Debut.

Special guest speakers are Lilly Trapp, who works locally with asylum seekers and a former resident at Napier Barracks.

This event was co-curated with the Deal Young Film Programmers and with support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery in order to bring this project to more audiences across the UK
